Kris Winslow MA, MBA, LMFT

      Kris is a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist (LMFT80007) who brings her knowledge and experience gained from working with a wide variety of people into her practice. She works with individuals, groups, couples, and families. She is a Certified Grief Specialist and has done work with grief and loss with both adults and children. Kris also works in the following treatment areas: Addiction and Recovery, Mood Disorders, Trauma and PTSD, Anger Management, Relationship Issues, Adjustment Disorders, Communication Skills, and Family of Origin Conflict.

     Kris uses an eclectic approach to therapy and bases her theoretical approach on the needs of her clients. She believes in creating and maintaining a genuine and nonjudgmental relationship with her clients. She wants her clients to feel that during session they are safe as well as comfortable. Clients are active participants in the therapeutic relationship and are encouraged to discuss their thoughts and beliefs about the direction of therapy. All forms of expression are welcome during session, including humor. Kris has been trained in and may use during the course of therapy aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems, Mindfulness, Psychodynamic Theory may be incorporated as well as others.

      Kris received her BA in Psychology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Kris also got her MBA from UMASS and took a detour into the land of sales and marketing before returning to her rightful path. She received her MA in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University.

     Kris began her training at Our House as a grief counselor and group leader for groups in grief therapy. She also spent a number of years working and interning at Southern California Hospital at Culver City (Brotman Medical Center). While primarily employed as a therapist and program assistant for the mental health intensive outpatient program, Kris also worked in inpatient mental health as well as the in and outpatient chemical dependency programs. Kris has also worked at the VA in the Haven program as a therapist and caseworker for homeless veterans with various mental health diagnoses as well as addictions. At the VA she instituted and ran both Grief and Loss and PTSD programs for the veterans.

     She worked at Phoenix House residential treatment center as a therapist and counselor for the out patient program. She provided group, individual, family and couples therapy for the clients that was both elective and court mandated. Most recently she has worked as a psychotherapist at Recovery Help Now. She worked with individuals and couples in areas such as sex and love addiction, as well as other addictions and mental health diagnoses.

     Kris has taken extensive coursework and is currently also focusing on working with individuals and couples on their prenatal and postpartum (perinatal) journeys.
